BuSpar (buspirone) is a prescription medication intended for the treatment of anxiety symptoms (irritability, dizziness, fear, tension, and some other ones) and some anxiety disorders. It works by restoring the balance of certain chemicals in your brain Being allergic to the active ingredient of this medication (buspirone) can prevent you from safely taking BuSpar. BuSpar should not be combined with antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, seizure medication, medicines to treat psychiatric disorders, erythromycin, itraconazole, ritonavir or rifampin without your health care provider's consent.

Make sure you tell your health care provider about any allergies you have, or if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney or liver disease. Your dose may need to be adjusted or you will not be able to take this medication safely. Wait for at least 14 days after you have stopped taking a MAO inhibitor before you can start taking BuSpar safely, and vice versa. The use of grapefruit juice is discouraged as it can interact with BuSpar and cause some dangerous interactions as well. Some drugs you are taking can add to the sleepiness BuSpar can cause. Make sure you do not combine this medicine with narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers and cold or allergy medicine to avoid this side effect.
